IGZ. What's different in Imperium Galactica III: Genesis compared to the two predecessors?


ZH. IG3 has been created in the tradition of great space strategy games. While with Imperium Galactica and Imperium Galactica II the strategy part dominated the game, Imperium Galactica III: Genesis rather focuses on the tactical 3D real-time space battles. The management of the colonies is more simple now, whereas the battles with their multitude of tactical possibilities are more important. The atmosphere and the graphics in the game are much more realistic than with the two predecessors, the spaceships are now moving according to physical flight models. The storyline is very important for the game, it connects the different missions and allows for different developments.




IGZ. Of the 6 alien races what is one race is more warlike and what are their strengths?


ZH. While shaping the alien races we aim at creating living communities, that is the whole of their technology, world order, way of life and thinking as well as their AI have to be in accord. We hope we can come up with highly detailed, authentic and truly interesting races living up to the quality of the best sci-fi novels. However, I'd rather not get into detail regarding their characteristics as one of the players' goal will be to get to know and become familiar with these alien races, find out their strength and weaknesses, alternatively even come to terms with them.




IGZ. Will there be multiplayer support? Will there be multiplayer specific games?


ZH. We will take the multiplayer mode into serious consideration after releasing the game. It is very likely, that there will be a multiplayer mode, but we do not know exactly when:)) Probably there will be an expansion with some new mission, I will tell you more about it as soon as possible :)




IGZ. Can you give us some idea how you approached the idea of resource managment and how much micromanagment will be needed to properly field good fleets and expand your bourders?


ZH. Building and managing the hinterland requires the gathering of various resources. Basic resources are minerals and energy, however, these doesn't have to be collected on a regular basis, only get the exploitation started and configured. Other resources will be accessible in the campaigns, such as for instance, alien technologies serving as the basis for scientific research.




IGZ. Though it was less prevalent in the second game, the previous Imperium Galactica games had very strong storylines. Will Imperium Galactica III continue that tradition?


ZH. The narrative behind Imperium Galactica III has been designed by the acclaimed Hungarian fantasy and SF writer, Zsolt Nyulaszi, creator of many role-playing games like MAGUS and Codex. To give you a teaser, here is a brief outline… Set in the not too distant future, an Alien Entity has invaded Earth, a small resistence is all that remains and have left Earth gathering help from other Alien species and galactic multi-national companies. While travelling through the Universe, it is up to you to decide whether to conclude an alliance with them or to attack them. Every kind of relationship with alien races means a new story although not necessary to complete the game, you can be sure interesting twists and rewards are there for the keen explorer.




IGZ. One of the more notable aspects of Imperium Galactica II was that its interface was relatively intuitive and easy to use. Does the development team want to take the same approach with Imperium Galactica III, or will it take more time to learn how to use the interface this time around?


ZH. As the engine is completely new, frankly speaking, nothing has been taken over from the previous parts' interface. In spite of this, you'll be able to spot the similarities :). The concept behind the interface is that it always depicts deep space and the background is entirely 3D.




IGZ. How is combat handled in Imperium Galactica III? Can players still outfit their ships with different weapons?


ZH. The combats take place in real-time, however, the game can be paused anytime. All the commands can be given in pause mode as well, which will be implemented after reverting to the game. Although, there are 5 main ship classes, each and every ship will be unique (freely configurable). The features of the ships can be adjusted separately (they may be slower, quicker, able to avoid assaults in different ways, their armor can be focused on devastating or disabling the enemy as well as breaking down their shields). During the combat we have to manage the different weapons, shields, engine, level of energy.




IGZ. At the time, Imperium Galactica II's cut-scenes were generally well-done and served as an excellent compliment to the storyline. Will Imperium Galactica III feature similar cut-scenes?


ZH. There'll be high-quality movie sequences in the game presented in an engine-like manner. There will be also pre-rendered movies.We don't want to put off our gamers from the feeling, so events that take place in the space are presented by engine movies. Due to the stunning visual features of the graphical engine there'll also be numerous in-game sequences, which rely purely on the engine's capacities. Before you get skeptical about it I can reassure you that IG3's universe will surpass even your wildest sci-fi imagination. :)))




IGZ. I play the game, I complete it. If I were to replay, how different would it be? Will I, in fact, know where the enemy is going to be, their strengths and weaknesses, etc?


ZH. The several sub-plots give the action of the game diversity and replayability. If someone focuses on the missions and the story, then it will be a more or less linear gameplay with twists and branches. Those, who prefer strategy (empire-building), will only experience that the game has a beginning and an ending. So, it will be worth playing the game again, since you may acquire technologies or weapons you don't even come across during your first game.)




IGZ. What is the story?


ZH. The story, as previously implied, is pretty long and highly elaborated. In addition, we strive to make it as exciting as an excellent sci-fi novel. ( As I have already published novels of this genre I hope I can live up to the task :). Therefore I wouldn't like to reveal anything for the time being. There'll be all the ingredients of a good sci-fi novel in it: scientific fiction, philosophy, action, conflicts, characters, mystical secrets, etc.




IGZ. What about the demo?


ZH. There will be a demo in January.




IGZ. When is Imperium Galactica III scheduled for release?


ZH.Q1/2002.
